Makayla's pics

Our class is ready to do the activity "magic hand".  We follow the movements of the leader's hand with our whole body.

We're playing multiplication Top It with cards.  Each player turns over two cards and multiplies them.  The player with the higher amount gets to keep all those cards.

Steve greets Jacob during our morning meeting.  Steve taught us how to say good morning in Thai.  Thank you, Steve!

We made sure to get in our 30 minutes of continuous activity this week by walking and playing capture the flag.
Capture the flag definitely had everybody moving!

Sean and Kennedy work on multiplication.

Kristina and Max discuss a math problem.

Dylan and Quinton work on their emergency preparedness kit and categorize what they'd have ready in case of an emergency.

Dylan and Chidy work together on a project.

Makayla and Cheyenne are diligently working on their project.

We are learning about volcanoes and we worked on creating a travel brochure that persuades people to visit Volcanoes Around the World!
Chidy practices using the SmartBoard by completing an addition problem.

Using the SmartBoard takes some practice, but Kayli acted like an expert when she showed us a subtraction problem.

During our activity Who started the motion?, the person in the middle has to try to figure out the leader.  You have to be very observant!

A praying mantis climbs on our brick wall.

The imagination playground lets us be creative to make so many things!

Kayli and Jacob greet one another during our morning meeting.

Connor is ready to greet someone during our morning meeting.

Our morning meeting greeting this morning had each of us throw a ball to the person we were greeting.  Bella is ready to greet someone in our class.

Our first read aloud was Camel Rider by Prue Mason.  We really enjoyed the realistic fiction book about two boys who come from very different backgrounds.

The day before the Iowa vs. Iowa State football game we all dressed in our favorite team colors.  During morning meeting we talked about our favorite team.

Iowa definitely had more tallies as the favorite in our class...but we know that Iowa State won!!
There were lots of Iowa and Iowa State fans showing their colors!

Connor's pics

This year each student will have the job to be a photographer for the week.  They will be recording what we're doing each week and then posting some of the pictures.
Connor was our first photographer of the year.  He did a great job!

Makayla works on labeling the United States.  We are learning about U.S. History.

Jacob starts working on his map.

Our new playground that was built last summer is a great addition to Wright.

Fifth graders are writing on our chalkboard wall on our outdoor stage during recess.

New school year, an amazing class

Here we are almost in the fifth week of school already!  It's amazing that it's gone so fast.  What a great group of students in our fifth grade.  I can't wait to see all the great things they do this year!

Can't you tell they're ready to learn?  :)

It's a new school year!

It's September already! I can't believe we've already had seven whole days of school. We're off to an amazing start! Our class is incredible! Every morning we start off with a morning meeting where we greet each other by name and we have a group activity. It's been so great getting to know one another. I am positive it's going to be a great year!
