Math Strategies

We've been learning quite a few strategies to solve our subtraction problems. In fact The A.M.M (The Amazing Math Marvel) left problems for us to solve last week! You all did a great job solving those problems. I hope the A.M.M. will visit us again sometime.
Now I have a problem!

I filled my car with 33 gallons of gas on Friday. I did quite a bit of driving over the weekend and now I have 17 gallons of gas left. How many gallons of gas did I use?

How would you solve this problem? What operation would you use (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division)? Leave a comment below that tells your thinking and your answer. If you used one of the strategies we've been talking about, be sure to explain your thinking! I can't wait to see what you think!

The awnser is 16.I have a calculator at home,and I calculated 3-7=-4.So I did 30-10=20.And then I did 20-4=16.So thats the awnser.

Sincerly,
Michael

Great thinking, Michael! I see you used the negative number strategy. Glad that works so well for you. I do have a question, though. Did you have to use a calculator for it or can you do that mentally? :)

I can do it both ways.
